With out the internet some say the world would be a good place, some say it makes the world great, and other could careless about it. In my opinion I feel the internet makes the world what it is today if you use it correctly it can help you learn have fun with it. An if you abuse it will abuse you, the internet has its many positives but also has its many negatives but that should not double think this great invention because if you look at it everything needs it negatives and positives. I feel the internet completes the world.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the internet can have positive and negative effects. Some people use the internet when they do not feel like doing anything on they're own or they may think that thinking of something themselves is too hard for them. Another thing is that people may not want to work for a period of time on a question they are given so they rely on the internet for a quick answer. In my opinion, the internet can help people, but if they have a test or something similar, the internet will not be there for them. In my other opinion, it is better to learn something on your own at first because that is when people actually learn something and came up with it, thats how people will remember it best.
ReplyDeleteWithout the internet I have indeed given up. I have flopped and have found myself resorting to the internet. I barely have to lift a finger to find what it is that i was too lazy to search for. I almost wish we could go back to when there were only encyclopedia's. Back when you actually had to work to find an answer to a question. The internet isn't all bad though. It's a very helpful resource. I just think it can sometimes take away from learning things on your own.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the internet has hurt many ways than it has helped. I believe that a mass majority of the population are misusing the web for it's proper purposes. The internet use to be a easy way of communicating with others, for researching all unknown questions, jobs, colleges ect. Now cyber bullying has came about which is one of the many downfalls the internet has proposed to everyone. Also many adults and students rely to much on the internet for answers they can most likely provide themselves but are to lazy to or are just incapable of doing on their own. I'm not saying the internet is all bad, because it is not. We the people need to learn again how to properly use the technology without it causing such damage to our memory and our learning ability.
ReplyDeleteWell you see maybe I am a sucker but its not because obsessed its because technology is meant to be used. Every era of time hashad thier new breakthroughs of technology and everyone used it to thier advantagRTe. But the computer has not just created a new way of technology but an entire new world for the people. So aybe my life would be different but I just will never know what that would feel like because we would probably have the same forms of technology in that parallel universe.
ReplyDeleteIf I were asked if I stopped memorizing information because I've relied on the internet too much? I would say yes. For a while I've had to research so many definitions in class because I'm so used to relying on the internet as my source. At times i blank out in class & forget what the teacher taught, so when it comes to homework I absolutely lose all memory on what I learned. So I use the internet to find the definitions of words for example, but maybe It's not the same meaning than how the teacher taught it. Doing work papers is all right. But when it comes to essays where I have t research, It's so stressful because you have to reaearch stuff on the internet that might not have the same answer that your teacher might be looking for. I believe the right sources are the teachers instead of the internet.
ReplyDeleteYes I feel that when it comes to just me I do "flop". I feel that kids these days can just get all the information they want, in the palm of their hand in an instant using their smart phones. I feel like the days of looking up words in a dictionary are coming to an end. Yes it can be quicker, but I also feel like it is going to be harder to spell. I mean think about it, when you type a word you get it now. Back in the dictionary days you would have to look at other words and look at the proper spelling, and not having it auto-correct it for you. Even including this BLOG i feel like I have to look at past work, or previous comments. I need ideas, and that can sometimes be hard to get off the top of my head. I also feel kids don't look up anything anymore, thanks to the good friend of wikipedia. It also is ruining our vocabulary, we just use simple words anymore. Mrs.Erdman being a english teacher, would think she knows what I am talking about. In essays everyone uses bland words anymore, and it is ruining our ability to speak. So this is how I feel about it, Im not trying to act all 1950's but I do think that the internet is slowing us down.
ReplyDelete@J. Walker
ReplyDeleteYeah no doubt that the internet helps, and it does make our lives less time consuming when it comes to information but I do think that it is making us more lazy. I say this because, we usually check our Facebooks about 15+ times while doing our work anymore.
@M. Dumoff
ReplyDeleteYeah it is scary knowing that the days of books is going to die. We have things like dictionary.com and products like the kindle. If we reach 80, maybe our later generations wont even know what a textbook is, or maybe even a book bag for that matter. Technology is moving way too fast that maybe everyone will just walk around with laptops, or who knows what. It could happen, scientists said we would never go into space. The existence of man just proves that anything can happen.
I personally wouldn't "flop" without the internet, but since it is so readily available, why not use it? Last year, I had Honors Chemistry, and it was an extremely difficult course, with a lot of homework. Obviously, I had to learn the concepts of the class for tests and quizzes, but, admittedly, I used the internet to help speed up the homework process many times. The next generation of kids are going to be even more addicted to the internet than we are, and I predict that they will all "flop" if they are someday denied the use of the internet.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I do “flop” very often. The internet is very useful but it does have its negative effects. Most people today are very lazy because we have resources such as the internet. It takes less time and effort than actually having to think for yourself or finding an answer out on your own. Although a lot of the information people read on the internet is false, some of it is good and true. The internet has helped me learn some things I never knew before. To be honest though I have stopped memorizing a lot of information especially in school, because I know when I need it I can just look it up on my phone. I personally think people spend way too much time on their cell phones. It’s so bad that sometimes I find myself with a group of people and we are all starring at our phones and it is silent. The internet is a very dangerous thing and people need to be careful what they post on social networking sites as well. It can lead to hurt feelings, someone getting fired from their job, or even a person going to jail. I do find it hard to describe things a lot and turn to the internet for help. It is just much easier and convenient but it isn’t making me smarter is a bad habit for many people.
ReplyDeleteI find it so difficult to refrain from commenting as my goal is for you to conduct this discussion without my lead at all and so far, I am very impressed and am itching to point out some AMAZING comments from your posts. Please continue..
ReplyDeleteThis may be a little late, but when it comes to the internet and school. You have to seperate both. You have to know your limit when comes to learning. The internet doesn't help reach your max learning. If having that connection is really important you need to check your own knowledge before proceeding any further with that. When it comes to that, I couldn't say i Flop unless its something not with the internet. That's why they invented the note book. It so you have on hand what you want to use and want to know. Also, taking notes helps you to not flop or even will avoid you some trouble. Randomly, I might lose my thought but, I can describe something to you. Internet connection isnt required for that.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that taking notes is not entirely to have a reference or something to look at later for help? Teachers ask students or some, demand that students take notes because the actual process of writing down the information in YOUR OWN WORDS and GRAPHICS helps you to more permanently remember and understand the information. Think about it. When you make flash cards, does the "flashing" or practice with the cards help you? Or was it the process of writing it all down help you?
Delete@R.Denny, The day of Books will never die. As long as there is education in a public school that might not happen. Unless Technology becomes one step ahead of us.
ReplyDeleteI just got Kindle Fire for Christmas after never having asked for it because I love hard copies of books, but never get the time to read one or never have one with me, ironically. Technically, the kindle, though, may have replaced the book, but it has also promoted my reading now. Kind of like how the full keyboard on a phone now has possibly helped our writing levels as opposed to how they were dissolving b/c of having to lazily click numbers three times each to get out a single letter. What do you think?
Delete@R.Denny Another thing School's don't have the money to be able to buy alot of Technology these days. With the way the economy is I wouldn't be surprised if you see a laptop for more than 100 dollars.
ReplyDelete@M.Dumoff i can agree with what your saying. A new world for people, thats some salty stuff. I never thought of my computer as another world for me. I always thought of it as something to either have for beneficial stuff or to pass the time. The more the computer ages the stronger it becomes pretty soon we will have computers on our glasses maybe even recorders and things like that.
"A new world for people"? Creepy, and I guess, "Salty" too!
Deletei say it depends how you use the internet/ technology to your advantage. If you use it to screw around on, obviously you wont get anything done, but if you use it for the appropriate research then it'll make whatever you're working on a whole lot easier.
ReplyDeleteEasy, true, but will it HELP you or HURT your intelligence, (ability to learn and solve problems yourself)?
DeleteSo, “…without an internet connection,” do YOU “flop”? We all want to know your answer to this prompt too!
DeleteI wouldn't say I would indeed go crazy without any internet as a source for looking up information for a project. I would only flip out if the project is due sometime early like in a day or two. I can handle coming up with my own solution as to just simply going to the public library for the information. Other than the internet, the library is one of the greatest sources for information anywhere. I've used my public library many times so I have no problem finding what I am looking for. Have I stopped memorizing information thanks to the internet? I would say, "Half and half" for that concept. I somewhat memorize my information but there can be times where I would just look at it and don't give it any importance at all. If it's important or interesting information, I would indeed memorize, if not, I pay no attention to it at all. Lately I have been "Drawn back" when trying to describe something. I always try to think of the word of which I am describing something saying, "Oh man what's the word I'm looking for." and snapping my fingers trying to remember what it is. All in all, the internet has had some effect on me and will have a major effect on our next generation of humans.
ReplyDeleteLet's take this beyond the prompt. So, can we seriously blame the "internet" and technology for this epidemic? Is there anything else we can possibly blame as the reasoning behind this evident "intellectual Apocalypse"? Is there an "Apocalypse" at all?
